north salem house new york
in collaboration with DSRlocated on the south-facing northern slopes of titicus reservoir in north salem, a visor-like second house for one of the most prominent developers of new york, his wife and family was designed as a refuge from the city’s hustle and bustle.
prominently perched on the hilltop overlooking the lake, the main and guest houses are simple compositions of the clear miesean plinth and roof modernistic approach paired with the surreal daliesque motif of the structurally amorphous crutch in the form of fireplaces that are distributed throughout, each forming their own specific island-like realm in the otherwise open space.
in the main-house the private bedrooms – besides the upper level master suite -, an indoor pool and spa are buried into the underground berms supporting the bridge-like plinth-structure. the stand-alone guest house sports the outdoor pool accompanied by a second outdoor bbq-fireplace.
